The big problem is embedded systems. The lifespan of an embedded system is significantly longer than most desktop/enterprise systems which means that there will likely be a very significant number of prone devices still around in 2038.<br /><br />We're talking things like microwaves, set-top boxes, televisions - just to name a few!

Computers record dates in the number of seconds since 1st January 1970. On that day the maximum possible value will be reached and it'll roll around to 1st January 1901. It's a far more widespread issue than the millennium bug since so much more uses this means of storing dates. And yes. It's very geeky :P
