09/09/09 is the last set of repeating, single-digit dates that we'll not see for almost a century
Nah 64 bits will be more than could ever be needed! ...or has that mistake been made before?
The millennium and 6/6/6 both passed without event, which puts paid to any myths about cataclysms being linked to such dates. Although 19/01/2038 will likely be an eventful day. I'm going going to fully stock my bomb shelter for that one!
Ok i understand. Thats spooky. brrrr........
Well we shall see. It's not a matter of believ, simply a matter of whether systems were vulnerable (it just so happened that in 2000, systems were'nt as vulnerable as expected)
We'll see.
The big problem is embedded systems. The lifespan of an embedded system is significantly longer than most desktop/enterprise systems which means that there will likely be a very significant number of prone devices still around in 2038.

We're talking things like microwaves, set-top boxes, televisions - just to name a few!
surely it will be 128 bit by then? or 256 bit?
Computers record dates in the number of seconds since 1st January 1970. On that day the maximum possible value will be reached and it'll roll around to 1st January 1901. It's a far more widespread issue than the millennium bug since so much more uses this means of storing dates. And yes. It's very geeky :P
What happens on 19/01/2038?
Do people really believe this stuff?
